Five Reasons Why You Should Be Outsourcing

We all know that one ladyboss who just seems to have her sh*t together. Her business is booming, her home is immaculate, her kids are perfectly dressed and well-behaved and she always looks like she stepped out of the pages of Vogue. Meanwhile, you’re rocking trackies and a topknot, are surrounded by at least 3 half-finished coffees and your kids are throwing lego blocks at you. And hey, there ain’t no shame in that game! That’s what life tends to look like when you’re juggling million different things at once.

But what is that lady’s deal, exactly? Why does she seem to be immune to the gritty and not-so-glamorous reality that is being a small business owner? Is she a robot? While we can’t prove she’s not microchipped, we will say there’s a good chance she just has a secret weapon in her arsenal (apart from being really good at sharing the highlights reel of her life on social media.) It’s called outsourcing. While it may seem like she’s running a one-woman-show, chances are she actually has a hive of busy bees working away behind the scenes. And so can you!

We know, the thought of outsourcing can be a little scary. After all, your business is like your baby and you wouldn’t just hand your baby to a random person on the street and hope for the best (we hope!) But while we’ve already outlined here why you should NOT outsource to the cheapest person you can find on the internet, delegating some of your workload to experienced pros can be seriously life-changing. Here’s why:

1. You’ll have more time

How many hours each day do you spend invoicing, responding to emails or coming up with catchy one-liners for your Twitter account? We’re willing to be the answer to that is “waaaaay too many.” It may sound obvious, but outsourcing these annoying ‘extra’ tasks will free up so much time. And now that you are running your own business, Your Time = Your Money. With all those extra, glorious hours in your day, you’d actually have time to do what you set out to do — run your kick-ass business!

2. The quality of work will be higher

Let us just preface this with saying we think you’re amazing and that we say this with love. But … you’re not the best at everything. And that’s totally fine, because nobody is! What you are the best at is running your biz — which is why you should focus your time and energy on doing just that. By having a numbers whiz taking care of your accounts and a social media guru making it rain ‘likes’ on Instagram, you’ll ensure every aspect of your business is in the best possible hands.

3. You’ll be more productive

Now that you’re no longer weighed down by tasks you hate doing, you’ll be able to focus on doing things you’re good at and actually enjoy. That means you won’t have to watch 200 YouTube videos to figure how to set up an email marketing campaign or website landing page. You’ll just jump right into a task, know exactly how to do it and move on to the next. Before you know it, you’ll have ticked off your entire to-do list for the day by 3pm! We’re not saying that you shouldn’t take the time to learn those new skills — if they tickle your fancy then by all means, learn away! But if the thought of doing it makes you want to hurl your laptop out the window, outsource it to someone who nerds out over it.

4. You will remember what enjoying your actual life feels like

You know all that extra time we mentioned earlier? Well, here’s a crazy concept — you could actually use some of it to do non ‘work-related’ things! One of the benefits of being your own boss is that you have control over your own schedule. But that’s not much use if you’re constantly chained to your desk, drowning in emails or Excel spreadsheets. Now that your shiny new assistant is taking care of all that, you’ll have time to pursue your dream of becoming the next female Bruce Lee (or, you know, just try that martial arts class you’ve been meaning to go to) And don’t you dare feel guilty about it for one second —we promise your business will still be there when you get back.

5. It’ll save you money

We know it can be hard to justify splashing cash when your business is in its early stages. But don’t forget — often you’ve got to spend money to make money! Now you’re no longer drowning in productivity quicksand, you’ll be actually able to focus on the aspects of your business that improve your cash flow (ie. making sales). This means it’s an investment that will actually save you money in the long run — especially since it’s a lot cheaper than hiring internal staff!
